The Town of Tryon has a full-time vacancy for the position of Fire Chief. This position is responsible for a variety of complex management and technical work in planning, organizing, directing, and supervising all fire service operations. The Fire Chief addresses personnel issues, public information matters, and ensures all laws, regulations, and procedures are followed. This position sets policies and goals under the direction of the Town Manager.
The ideal candidate will be very community oriented and a team player. The Town of Tryon is looking for candidates who will continue the positive trajectory of the department by unifying stakeholders, providing mentorship, and leading by example.
Minimum qualifications include five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal fire service and two (2) years of supervisory experience. Certification in Emergency Medical Technology is required and other applicable professional certifications are preferred. Thorough knowledge of State of North Carolina Statutes pertaining to Municipal Fire and Rescue Department operations are required. Knowledge of the Town of Tryon and Polk County is preferred but not required. Salary is competitive and depends on qualifications. The Town offers a very competitive benefits package.
