Tryon Communications has the ability to operate on nineteen different radio frequencies and has radio contact with the Polk, Rutherford and Henderson County Sheriffs' Offices, other local police departments including Landrum, South Carolina and also the Fire Departments, Emergency Medical Services and Rescue Squad for Polk County.
Communications has access to the State Bureau of Investigations' Division of Criminal Information (D.C.I.) network, which allows the dispatchers on duty to obtain information on vehicle registration, drivers license information, wanted & missing persons, stolen vehicles/guns/property, and criminal history information.
The Communications Center uses a computerized call log system by Southern Software. Currently, there are two full-time Dispatchers for the Department: Blake Arledge and Ann Gibbs. The full time employees are supplemented by the Reserve Dispatch unit, who fill in when needed for sick time or vacation, they are: Kelly Hamby, Theda Rickman, Tim Wright, Scott Lindsey, and J.J. Sauve.
We offer a unique service to the businesses located here. Our emergency contact notification system provides information on all shops and stores in town and who to contact in the event of an emergency. We encourage all new businesses to contact us and provide us with this information. It is kept confidential.
The Tryon Communications Center is available to assist our citizens with any concerns or problems.
The Town of Tryon operates curbside recycling every Wednesday to all residents. The Town accepts aluminum, all colors of glass and paper. Residents are asked to separate the different recyclables prior to pickup. The town accepts only plastics nos. 1 & 2. Cardboard cartons are to be flattened. Newspapers, magazines, telephone books, catalogs, etc are to be tied in bundles, bagged or in some container. No single bundle is to exceed 40 pounds in weight. No paper products with moisture barriers such as milk or ice cream cartons. These items are included in regular garbage pickup. The town offers recycling bins to in-town residents. Please come in person to the Town Hall and ask to speak with Pam Justice. There is no difference between the blue and green recycling containers, as long as you separate your recyclables. Glass/Plastics 1 & 2/Cans in one container and paper/cardboard in the other.
The Town maintains approximately 16 miles of municipal streets within the town limits. Potholes, missing street signs and other necessary repairs should be reported to the Town Hall or let us know online via our work order form.
The NC Department of Transportation maintains all the major roads and state system streets. Repairs should be reported directly to the NC Department of Transportation maintenance shop at 828.894.8980.
The Town provides water and/or sewer service to residents where available. Utility deposits for water and/or sewer service are required before service begins. For additional information or assistance you may call Tryon Town Hall. Requests for new service should be made in person at the Town Hall located at 301 North Trade Street.
Water and/or sewer bills are normally mailed on or around the 20th day of the following month. Payments should be made at the Town Hall or mailed to the Town of Tryon: 301 North Trade Street, Tryon, NC 28782. After hours and weekend emergencies, such as a water main break, should be reported to the Tryon Police Department at 828.859.9195.
